According to legend, Saint Adalbert (Święty Wojciech), on his way to Prussia for his Christian missionary journey, stopped at Wyszogród. Over the centuries, the legend of the saint’s stay helped shape the identity of present-day Fordon, which historically held a strategic position thanks to its ability to oversee navigation on the Vistula River at the border between the regions of Kuyavia and Pomerania. Its history spanning more than a thousand years, combined with today’s growing interest in developing Vistula River tourism, can become a driving force behind the revitalization and promotion of Old Fordon.
In this episode of our regional series, “Kuyavia, Pałuki and Surrounding Areas,” we aim to revisit the history of Fordon and showcase its potential as a unique tourist destination centered on the heritage of the Vistula River.
